The Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has millions of Americans self-quarantining, which means they’ll need to rely more on their HVAC to stay comfortable amidst the crisis. They’re also going to be using the bathroom more – at least we hope so, given all the toilet paper they’ve been buying. Clogs may be inbound, and you’ll want your air filter to be working at maximum capacity. You know you need a professional, but is it safe?

The answer really depends on the company. The right HVAC and plumbing company will value the health of its employees and consumers. This means no one will be working if they are feeling ill or exhibit any of the signs of the coronavirus, which have been published by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

Can I Call a Plumber if Someone in My House Is Sick?

If you or a family member has fallen sick or tested positive for the virus, you should call ahead to your plumbing company and explain the situation. Anyone who shows signs of COVID-19 has been asked to stay inside for at least 14 days. Their families are being encouraged to do the same; although they may not exhibit symptoms, exposure to the virus increases the risk of spreading it throughout the community.

That being said, if you have a plumbing emergency that can’t wait two weeks, call ahead and explain that someone in the house has been ill. A plumber can then take the necessary precautions to protect themselves such as a face mask, gloves and even full-body suit. You can also sterilize the bathroom before they enter your home using bleach.

Can I Get an HVAC Repair During the Coronavirus Pandemic?

Many states have declared a state of emergency and ordered local businesses to shut down until the end of April or early May. This is done to prevent the spread of the virus and give health personnel a chance to treat and isolate as many infected people as possible without worsening the spread.

That being said, there are still some heating and air conditioning repair services available near you. The best thing to do is call ahead and ask what their policies are during this time. Some services may be limited or postponed until the spread of the virus has been contained.

The most important thing to remember is that COVID-19 spreads primarily through contact. When a technician arrives, maintain a disease of at least 6 feet whenever possible. Handle any documents they give you with gloves or wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water after touching anything they give you.

Staying Safe Indoors During The COVID-19 Quarantine

Repair techs and plumbers can still come into your home without increasing your risk of becoming infected. Ask a company about their current safety protocol, including measures they’re taking to ensure their clients are able to stay healthy while inviting techs into their homes during self-quarantine.

Life may be different for a while as the world fights to stop this new virus, but there will always be dependable repair technicians and plumbers for you to turn to when you need help the most.
